As mentioned yesterday, recent wet weather is slowing crop planting in the Midwest. The dry areas in the western section are starting to catch up with rain as some places like Des Moines, IA have received just over two inches during the first week of May. This is good for the soil moisture, but has come with severe storms the past few weeks and also led to minor flooding where the heaviest rain has fallen. More scattered showers and thunderstorms into late week for the Cornbelt which will lead to more slowdowns for corn and soybean planting into next week. There will be small windows of opportunity for crop planting next week as near to above normal precipitation is expected. The 11-15 day period looks a little better for fieldwork wth near normal precipitation across the Midwest. Recent rain and some more the next couple weeks will benefit the already planted crops, but continue to keep corn planting below the 5 year pace.
