The latest Drought Monitor map shows a 2.7% decrease in drougt across the nation with 34.7% too dry. All the key growing areas east of the Rockies saw a decline in drought over the past week. The Midwest had the largest decline by 8.5% and is just under 26% too dry. The High Plains is at 41.2% too dry after a small decrease over the past week The South Central region has similar totals as the national average and is at 33.7% after a 3% drop off. After weeks of increase, the Southeast had a 4% decrease in drought from last week and is down to 19.5%. In key Midwest states, Iowa continues a downward trend in drought with over a 10% decline over the past week and is at 59.7% in a drought category. Illinois remains just below 10% too dry after a very small decline and Indiana remains drought free.
